Workday advisory and engineering

Workday Consulting Services

Independent advisory and engineering support for Workday programs: scoping, implementation oversight, integrations and post-go-live improvement, with plain answers about cost and risk.

  • Independent: SaM Solutions makes no Workday partner or certification claim.
  • Engineering first: integrations, data and custom development are our core strength.
  • Scoped by evidence: we do not quote timelines or prices before we understand your tenant.

Workday services we support

Eight service areas cover most of what a Workday customer needs. Two have dedicated pages; the others are described below on this page.

Managed services and AMS

After go-live, someone must triage tickets, prepare for the two major Workday releases each year, and make small configuration changes safely. We can provide advisory and engineering capacity for that rhythm, subject to the access your organization grants.

Financial Management

We help finance teams translate chart-of-accounts decisions, worktags, approvals and reporting needs into a design that the configuration team can build and auditors can follow.

HCM and Payroll

Core HR, absence, time tracking and payroll depend on clean organizational data and honest policy decisions. We review requirements, test scenarios and the downstream feeds that payroll relies on.

Adaptive Planning

Planning projects succeed when the model is small enough to explain. We help define dimensions, drivers, and the data feeds from Workday and other sources.

Extend and custom development

When a requirement does not fit standard configuration, we design and build the surrounding software: portals, workflow helpers and data services that talk to Workday through its supported interfaces.

Data migration and testing

We prepare conversion files, build reconciliation checks and design test cycles that prove payroll, balances and integrations behave before cutover.

Why SaM Solutions

We would rather state the limits of our position than hide them. SaM Solutions is an independent software engineering company. This page makes no claim of Workday partner status or individual certification. For general engineering evidence, see our law enforcement platform case study and our desktop-to-microservices SaaS case study. These are general software engineering examples, not Workday client work or proof of Workday results.

  • Integration engineering depth. Most Workday friction lives in the connections: payroll feeds, identity, finance and recruiting. That is ordinary software engineering, and it is where we are strongest.
  • Independent advice. Recommendations on scope, vendors and sequencing follow your requirements, and we state our assumptions so you can challenge them.
  • Clear responsibility lines. We state who owns tenant configuration, who approves changes and who signs off on testing before work starts.
  • Scoping options. Fixed-scope assessments and defined work packages are possible where requirements are stable; time-and-materials suits discovery-heavy work.
  • Post-go-live attention. We plan support and knowledge transfer from the first workshop, not as an afterthought.

Tenant authorization. We can only work in a Workday tenant when you, as the customer, authorize named access. Who may configure your tenant depends on your Workday agreement, so confirm access and deployment terms with Workday. We will tell you early which parts we can support.

Engagement models

  • Full implementation oversight

We act as your independent program lead or engineering partner across the whole project, coordinating with your deployment partner where one is engaged.

  • Phase or module rollout

One module, region or workstream at a time, so lessons from the first release improve the next.

  • Staff augmentation

Engineers, analysts and testers who join your team and work under your direction, within the access you authorize.

  • AMS retainer

A recurring block of capacity for support, release preparation and small enhancements after go-live.

Our approach: five steps

  1. Assess

Review current systems, data quality, policies and integrations, and agree what success looks like.

  2. Plan

Define scope, sequence, ownership and the test strategy. Costs and timelines follow from this plan, not the other way round.

  3. Configure

Support the team that configures the tenant with decisions, documentation and build work on integrations and extensions.

  4. Test

Run unit, integration, parallel payroll and acceptance cycles with reconciliation evidence.

  5. Deploy and support

Manage cutover, hypercare and handover so your team can run what was built.

The implementation page expands this into six phases with deliverables: see Workday implementation services.

Illustrative delivery examples

Illustrative, not client results

The examples below are composite scenarios written to show how we would approach common problems. They describe no real client, outcome or metric and are not evidence of past results.

  • Payroll feed rebuild

Scenario: a manufacturer with a legacy nightly file to an external payroll provider. Approach: document every field, build the feed with validation and error alerts, then run parallel comparisons before cutover.

  • Phased HCM rollout

Scenario: a hospital group with several legal entities. Approach: pilot one entity, fix data rules, then repeat the pattern for the rest.

  • Post-go-live clean-up

Scenario: a university with many manual workarounds. Approach: rank open issues by cost to the business and retire them in releases aligned to Workday updates.

Industries

We scope work with the regulatory and operational concerns of each sector in mind. These are areas where we can hold informed discussions, not claims of Workday project history.

  • Manufacturing: shift patterns, plant-level cost centres and time collection from shop-floor systems.
  • Healthcare: credentialing data, scheduling systems and strict access to employee records.
  • Finance: segregation of duties, audit trails and reporting deadlines.
  • Higher education: faculty and student-employee populations, grant funding and academic calendars.

Resources

Who is responsible for what

Most disappointment in Workday programs comes from assumptions about responsibility. Before work starts, we write down four things: who owns tenant configuration, who approves business decisions, who signs off on test results, and who runs the system after go-live.

As a rule, your organization owns decisions and data. Who may configure the tenant depends on your Workday agreement and deployment approach; confirm access and deployment terms with Workday. We contribute independent review, engineering, integration and testing capacity. If you already have a deployment partner, we work alongside it and do not replace it; if you have none, we can help you evaluate candidates against your requirements.

Frequently asked questions

What does a Workday consultant do?

A Workday consultant helps an organization plan, configure, integrate, test and support Workday. Depending on specialty, that means gathering requirements, designing business processes and security, converting data, building integrations, running test cycles or supporting the tenant after go-live. SaM Solutions provides independent advisory and engineering support, working in your tenant only where you authorize access.

How do I choose a Workday consulting firm?

Ask for named people and references you can contact, a written split of responsibilities, and how change requests are priced. Confirm with Workday which access and deployment terms apply to your project, and be wary of any claim you cannot verify. Compare at least two proposals using the same scope assumptions, and ask what happens after go-live.

Do you work with existing Workday customers?

Yes. Many needs arise after go-live: repairing integrations, improving reports, preparing for the two annual releases, or recovering a stalled project. We start with an assessment of your current state, and we work only within the tenant access and security approvals your organization grants. Confirm access and deployment terms with Workday.

What does Workday consulting cost?

It depends on scope, duration, team makeup and the rate model, so we do not publish a price list. Fixed-scope assessments suit stable requirements, while time-and-materials suits discovery-heavy work. We provide a written estimate after scoping. For subscription and implementation cost background, see our pricing guide, which keeps quote-only figures quote-only.
